En ella, cada semana publica un poema de algún poeta contemporáneo norteamericano junto a alguna observación suya. Se trata de un ejercicio que permite conocer el panorama actual de la poesía de Estados Unidos. Para esta entrega presentamos un poema de David Ray llamado Viudo. Aquí un poema de David Ray de Arizona que trata el tema de cómo una persona sigue adelante después de la muerte de un ser querido. Por un tiempo, incluso la actividad más simple puede sentirse tanto extraña como nueva. Su libro más reciente es When, publicado en Howling Dog Press, 2007.
Viudo
Ella tomó tan buen ciudado de él
que rara vez levantó un dedo.
Así que sólo hasta ahora se coloca
cerca del fregadero y pela
su primera papa con el cuchillo para pelar
que ella dejó como legado. La papa
él nota, encaja en la mano humana,
está hecha para que lo haga, es uno
de esos milagros. Y ella lo supo todo este tiempo.

Here is a poem by David Ray, of Arizona, that gets to the subject of how a person moves ahead following the death of a loved one. For a time, the simplest activity can feel both strange and new. His most recent book of poetry is When, from Howling Dog Press, 2007.
Widower
She took such good care of him
that he seldom lifted a finger.
So only now does he stand
by the sink and peel
his first potato, with the paring knife
she left as legacy. The potato,
he notes, fits the human hand,
was made to do so, one
of the miracles. She knew all along.
