Poesía norteamericana: Marie Howe

Presentamos, en versión de G.A. Chaves, un poema de Marie Howe (Rochester, NY, 1950). En 1988 publicó su primer poemario, The Good Thief. En 1997 publicó What the Living Do, una elegía a su hermano muerto a causa del SIDA. Ha recibido becas por parte del National Endowment for the Arts y la Guggenheim Foundation.

 

 

 

 

 

EL MOMENTO 

 

Ah, ese momento así-repentino

en que,               no pasa

nada

y no hay listas de cosas-por-hacer

tal vez               por medio instante

la prisa del tránsito se detiene.

El zumbido del Debo ser, Debo ser, Debo ser

se desacelera hasta callar,

y ya ni se mueven las blancas cortinas de algodón.

Oh, the coming-out-of-nowhere moment

when,   nothing

happens

no what-have-I-to-do-today-list

 

maybe   half a moment

the rush of traffic stops.

The whir of I should be, I should be, I should be

slows to silence,

the white cotton curtains hanging still.
