Today at Círculo de Poesía: Brooklyn Bridge, by mexican poet Mario Bojórquez (Los Mochis, 1968). “Bojórquez has a strong and expanding reputation as one of his generation’s most valued poets. In 2007 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Poesía Aguascalientes, a major national prize [among many others]. I chose to work with his award-winning book of poems, El deseo postergado. I especially admire its relentless drive to the core of a “total wound” that creates the book’s center of gravity. I am also attracted to the rich, inventive language that churns and leaps through these poems” George Eklund.

Brooklyn Bridge
From the other shore of what I say
a bridge is built to reach my word.
Each time I say my name
my name comes back to me distorted
Each time I say water, the water comes back as wind
the wind as fire, the fire as my exact name
but much fuller, and stranger.
I throw words, names, verses to the other shore
each time
and each time it announces new intensities
of what I do not know.
Over this bridge, should be thrown
the things I don’t say, my silence
so it will eventually come back as poem.

Brooklyn Bridge
mi nombre vuelve a mí desfigurado.
