Presentamos en la versión en la versión del poeta y traductor Adalberto García López (Culiacán, 1993) un poema de la galardonada poeta Sujata Bhatt (Ahmedabad, India, 1956). Algunos de sus libros son Brunizem (1988), Monkey Shadows (1991), Augatora (2000), The Colour of Solitude (2002) y Pure Lizard (2008). Obtuvo el Poetry Book Society y en 2014 el Premio Internacional de Poesía Nuevo Siglo de Oro, que otorga el Encuentro Internacional de Poesía CDMX, Coyoacán, Capital Mundial de la Poesía.

Titubeo en decir
lo que pienso:
“Este cementerio es hermoso”
este cementerio que alguna vez
fue el corazón del ghetto.
Pero estaba ahí antes
del ghetto, y todavía sigue
estando ahí el día de hoy.
La tierra
está tratando de sanar por su cuenta.
Estoy empecinada irme.
El silencio entre los muertos.
El silencio entre las flores silvestres
y el cielo, el silencio que me jala
hacia mi interior
es lo que me mantiene
parada en busca de otro
camino que pudiera tomar.
Es mayo y las verdes
sombras cayendo a través de las piedras
me hacen pensar
que si yo hubiera vivido en esta ciudad
vendría de visita todos los días.
Es mayo pero me repito a mí misma
que si yo hubiera vivido en esta ciudad
caminaría aquí aun
en los más oscuros días de noviembre
y diciembre.

I hesitate to say
what I think:
«This cemetery is beautiful»-
this cemetery that was
once in the heart of the ghetto-
But it was there before
the ghetto –and it is still
being used today.
The earth
is trying to heal itself-
I am reluctant to leave.
The silence between the dead-
The silence between the wild flowers
and the sky- the silence that pulls me
deeper into my own being
is what keeps me
standing here looking for another
path I could walk down-
It is May and the green
shadows falling across the stone
make me think
that if I lived in this town
I would visit
this place every day-
It is May but I tell myself
that if I lived in this town
I would walk here even
during the darkest days of November
